Waste Wise Project Launches Training Workshops

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project Waste Wise (No. 2024-2-SK01-KA210-VET-000260945), aimed at improving waste management, a series of training workshops has been launched. The objective of these activities is to strengthen the professional capacities of public administration employees and support the effective implementation of sustainable and circular economy principles in practice.

The first training workshop took place on February 12, 2026, at the Municipal Office in Nové Sady, focusing on the topic “Waste Management and Contamination Issues in Slovakia.” The activity provided participants with a solid expert foundation for understanding key challenges in the field of waste management and enabled the exchange of practical experiences among professionals.

This was followed by the second training seminar, held on April 17, 2026, for employees of the Department of Environment of the Nitra City Office, entitled “New Technologies and Trends in Waste Management and Governance.” The seminar was delivered by Prof. JUDr. Eleonóra Marišová, PhD.

The content of the seminar focused on systemic and legislative aspects of waste management, particularly on the implementation of European Union law into the national legal framework, as well as on linking EU strategic objectives (especially the European Green Deal) with the daily practice of local authorities. An important part of the seminar was also the presentation of results from a comparative analysis of waste management systems in Slovakia and Italy, including the identification of systemic gaps and the presentation of transferable good practices.

The implemented activities directly contribute to achieving the project objectives, particularly in the areas of:

  • enhancing professional knowledge and skills of target groups,
  • supporting effective knowledge transfer between academia and practice,
  • strengthening administrative capacities of public authorities,
  • and promoting the implementation of innovative and sustainable solutions in waste management.

The series of workshops reflects the identified needs of target groups and is designed to deliver practically applicable outputs for participants. At the same time, it contributes to broader European Union priorities related to the transition to a circular economy, environmental protection, and the strengthening of environmental awareness.

The training activities will continue in the upcoming period in both Slovakia and Sicily through additional thematic workshops, further developing participants’ competences and supporting the sustainable transformation of waste management at local and regional levels.
